Well, I think I have recovered from a wonderful weekend at Red River Gorge. Every year the Boss sets up a trip for us and our friend which is always a great time and I hope she knows how much I appreciate the effort she makes (I can hear her saying, “give me a break”) but I mean it.
This trip provides an interesting mix of people and adventures. This year the Boss found a new cabin on an undeveloped lake. It was awesome and I am excited that we got to stay there before the lake becomes surrounded by cabins.
This year we had the company of two wonderful children Maggie and Emma (Shawn and Jodi’s little girl). It is always fun to watch two people with the collective age of three years stop an entire room of people.
The trip also provided me with an opportunity to act like the explorer I wish I was. Nothing like a group of people willing to see what is down there, or to find a way to get to the “hole”. A chance to scamper around on rocks acting like I was the first person to ever explore that crevasse.
I think trips like this provide to each person something a little different… meeting different expectations. But, I have to thank Shawn and Katie for braving the canoe in the dark with me, it was one of the more peaceful feelings I have had recently. Thanks to Chucky for being Chucky. Thanks to Dee, Ruth, and Jodi for your patience with the calls to the wild. Thanks to Brian for acting in a fashion that cannot be given justice in words. Thanks to Dan for always keeping the Boss calm and exploring with me. Thanks to Maggie and Emma for giving perspective.
ps. I photoshopped photos 5,6,7 and 10
