The trip to Chicago was great. We shopped a little, went to the top of the Hancock building, went to Millennium Park, went to Navy Pier, and walked everywhere. It was great to act like I have no responsibilities for a couple of days, but as we all know it is catching up with me upon my return.
A strange thing that I left the city with was remembering how much fun it can be to walk everywhere you go. In a strange way I found not having a car liberating. It took me back to a time when, as a child, adventure was always found on foot or on a bicycle.
It also reminded me how cool the boss really is. Sometimes the rut of life hides this from me. I wake, drink coffee, work, come home, walk, drink coffee, work, sleep…begin again, knowing all along I don’t have to open my eyes because the rut will guide me. When I was young I did a lot of dirt-biking, ruts were my worst enemy then, always turning (and sometimes toppling) me in a direction I did not desire.
So in all of my “maturing” I find that I have lost two simple things, two simple facts of knowledge, taken for granted at the time, that I am sad I have lost.
ps. For anyone interested the only pictures I really editied were the picture with the leaves through the window (increased color) and the one with the horse and carriage (moved lighting).
